January assessment learner response
1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).
WWW- Q4 shows real engagement with a range of theories and Andrew Tate is a very good example to use to discuss this. Now we need to add some exam technique to push towards the top level.
Q1- The gold, textured colour scheme to the main text offers connotations of wealth, success
and luxury – reflecting both Stormzy’s recent success and also qualities associated with the
genre of music (rap/grime).
Q2-Diversification means companies can embrace new technology and find new revenue
streams e.g. music industry and streaming
Q3-Funding model is outdated in the digital age – licence fee of £147 a year for all BBC (and
some C4) content isn’t realistic. Young people are increasingly choosing to avoid paying the
licence fee so long-term future of funding model isn’t viable.
Q4-Answer question in introduction. Learn theories and be able to use and talk about them.
Example: Uses & Gratifications theory (Blumler & Katz) – audiences are active and seek out media
they wish to engage with. This would suggest media is less likely to be damaging and
audiences have a high degree of control over their media consumption.
3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? You may also want to think here whether you had completed all the original blog tasks from last term before doing the assessment.
3- I had an actual Btec IT exam and after I completed it I just felt so relaxed and confident as I prepared for it quite well and then I just didn't revise good enough for my other exams and my grades reflect that.
4) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.
4) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.
I identified 3 different points but I guess that my explanations weren't good. Also going over it I think I deserved at least one more mark as I identified both vertical and horizontal integration as well as give a benefit for both of them but it was two point of the same one just extended but I also said diversification.
5) Look at your answer for Question 3. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark?
I did write about both BBC and commercial broadcasters but a served of the question and stared writing about newspaper industry. What could have been added was "Channel 4 reinvests any profits back into programmes – this raises quality and benefits audiences."
6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 4 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.

Uses & Gratifications theory (Blumler & Katz) tells us audiences are active and seek out media they wish to engage with. This would suggest media is less likely to be damaging and
audiences have a high degree of control over their media consumption. Most people aren't stupid. Humans are naturally curious and in today's age of digital media and easy accessibility to set media when people see something that they aren't sure is true most people would just search it up in one search and figure out whats happening.
