Part 1: BBC Question Time analysis Watch this clip from BBC Question Time with Russell Brand and Nigel Farage. The BBC deliberately placed the two against each other and the episode resulted in far more people than usual watching and reacting on social media. 1) What examples of  binary opposition  can you suggest from watching this clip? Russell Brand is arguing that immigration  isn't the problem but corruption  is while Nigel argues that immigrants  are the problem 2) What  ideologies  are on display in this clip? Positive view on immigration and a negative view on it. Part 2: Media Magazine reading Media Magazine issue 52 has two good articles on Ideology. You need to read those articles ( our Media Magazine archive is here ) and complete a few short tasks linked to them.  Page 34: The World Of Mockingjay: Ideology, Dystopia And Propaganda 1) Read the article and summarise it in one sentence. MIGRAIN: Feminist theory

Image
  1) What examples are provided from the two texts of the 'male gaze' (Mulvey)?  Pan Am and Beyonce.  2) Do texts such as these show there is no longer a need for feminism or are they simply sexism in a different form? Texts such as these show that there is a no longer a need for feminism due to the representation of women being independent and working in jobs that are aspirational to some of their audiences however, these texts are mainly sexism in a different form as in Pan Am we still see the sexualisation and reinforcement of the male gaze. 3) Choose three words/phrases from the glossary of the article and write their definitions on your blog. Patriarchy- man have all the power in the society Nostalgia- a feeling of the past that you would like to relive/re feel Feminism- a moment of where women strives for equality and right. Collective identity and representing ourselves: blog tasks

Task 1: Media Magazine article Read the Media Magazine article on collective identity:  Self-image and the Media  (MM41 - page 6). Our  Media Magazine archive is here . Complete the following tasks on your blog: 1) Read the article and summarise each section in one sentence, starting with the section 'Who are you?' “Who are you”- we are the person we want to be or the person we want to be seen as. 2) List  three  brands you are happy to be associated with and explain how they reflect your sense of identity. I don't have any research on any of the brands i use/wear so my opinion would probably change if i did. Emporio Armani  3) Do you agree with the view that modern media is all about 'style over substance'? What does this expression mean? Style over substance means that people are more fixed on how they look then on who they are as a person. Also I do agree with this statement as most people put on a mask for other people to see. There was...

January assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW- Q4 shows real engagement with a range of theories and Andrew Tate is a very good example to use to discuss this. Now we need to add some exam technique to push towards the top level.  2) Read  the mark scheme for this assessment carefully . Identify at least  one  potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. Q1- The gold, textured colour scheme to the main text offers connotations of wealth, success and luxury – reflecting both Stormzy’s recent success and also qualities associated with the genre of music (rap/grime). Q2- Diversification means companies can embrace new technology and find new revenue streams e.g. music industry and streaming Q3-Funding model is outdated in the digital age – licence fee of £147 a year for all BBC (and some C4) content isn’t realistic. Young people are increasingly cho...
